Rabun County Elementary School, Rabun Gap Community School and South Rabun Elementary School were honored Friday, May 4, 2007, in Atlanta, after being chosen as Title I Distinguished Schools.

Each of these schools has made Adequate Yearly Progress for four consecutive years.  Rabun County Elementary School was represented by Midge McVey and Lisa Patterson.  Rabun Gap Community School was represented by Judith Ross, principal, and Martha Roberts.  South Rabun Elementary School was represented by Stan Rentz, principal, Merrabeth Benton, and Pam Hurt.  The school system was represented by Matt Arthur, superintendent, Laverne Beck, assistant superintendent for grades K-5, Jan Pearce, assistant superintendent for grades 6-12, and David Grist, Title I Director.

Kathy Cox, state school superintendent, presided over the recognition banquet and presented the awards.  Each of the Title I Distinguished Schools received a monetary award and a certificate as well as an invitation to the banquet.
